Human Rights Movie Night and Book Launch

“Human Rights Cinema Night and Book Launch” was organized on September 27 with Human Rights Academy alumni participation.

At the beginning of the event, the HRA Coordinator and FNF Turkey Project Coordinator Elif Güney Menderes expressed her joy to host the first face to face event of the Human Rights Academy. She said that Human Rights Academy has more than two hundred alumni and a strong network of alumni.

Then HRA Academic Advisor and Kadir Has University Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Olgun Akbulut talked about the Academy’s impact. He pointed out that the interest in the Academy, which contributes to human rights education needed in many areas in Turkey, grows day by day. Dr. Akbulut, an expert on minority rights, talked about the historical development of minority rights then switched to the documentary screening about minority rights.

Hunting in the Arctic Circle (The Swedish State vs. The Saami)

The event continued with a documentary screening about the Saami people’s (an indigenous nation in Sweeden) struggle with the Swedish State on the soil for their cultural rights.

Historical Development of Minority Rights

After the documentary screening , a discussion on the documentary and Dr. Akbulut’s new book titled “Historical Development of Minority Rights” was initiated. After the discussion, the event ended with a book signing by Dr. Akbulut.
